Close finishes were the theme of the day as over 100 enthusiastic Corgis made their way to compete in the highly anticipated 2024 Corgi World Championship Races. This exciting event, presented by Amazon and benefiting The Alzheimer’s Association, took place at Emerald Downs on a beautiful July Sunday, drawing a large and eager crowd.

The event kicked off with nine thrilling qualifying heats, each one more competitive than the last. Last year’s champion, Milo Benz, owned by Kaela Belen and Nick Pecache of Puyallup, made a triumphant return, setting the stage for an exhilarating championship heat that featured ten of the fastest Corgis around.

In the final championship heat, Milo Bigglesworth, owned by Amy Williams and B. J. Williams of Rice Lake, WI, raced to the lead right from the start. The crowd watched in awe as Milo Bigglesworth dashed to the wire, securing a decisive victory by 3 lengths over his closest competitor, Captain of Pacifica, CA. Murray of Langley, WA put up a spirited fight and secured a commendable third place.

For those who missed the live action, the Emerald Downs Corgi Races will be broadcast on ESPN8: The Ocho in early August, offering viewers another chance to witness the excitement and charm of these remarkable canine athletes.
