Santa Anita’s 16-day Autumn Meet concluded on Sunday, with Juan Hernandez leading in the jockey standings, Bob Baffert securing the trainer title, and Harris Farms emerging as the top owner in wins.
For Hernandez, a 32-year-old from Veracruz, Mexico, this marks his seventh riding title at Santa Anita. He wrapped up the meet with 25 wins from 103 mounts (a 24 percent win rate), surpassing runner-up Umberto Rispoli by 10 victories. Additionally, Hernandez led all jockeys in purse earnings, totaling $1,566,410. His most notable victories included the Grade II Oak Leaf Stakes with Non Compliant for Baffert, the Anoakia Stakes with Silent Law, also for Baffert, and the Swingtime Stakes riding Queen of the Mud for trainer Graham Motion.
Hernandez was previously the leading rider at the 2024 Hollywood Meet, the 2023-24 Classic Meet, the 2023 Autumn Meet, the 2023 Hollywood Meet, the 2022-23 Classic Meet, and the 2021-22 Winter-Spring Meet.
Baffert won the trainer title by just one win over Phil D’Amato. On the final day, he secured this title with the victory of promising 2-year-old filly Cipriani, who won her debut in a maiden special weight race covering six furlongs.
Baffert finished the meet with 14 wins from 44 starters (32 percent) and led all trainers in purse earnings with $1,313,146. This marks Baffert’s first trainer victory at Santa Anita since the 2020 Autumn Meet. His biggest wins came from the Grade I American Pharoah with Citizen Bull, the Oak Leaf with Non Compliant, and the Anoakia with Silent Law.
Harris Farms, a longstanding mainstay in California racing and breeding, claimed its first owner title at a Santa Anita meet. Under the leadership of John Harris, they won four races from 11 starters to top the standings.
Racing will return to Santa Anita with its traditional opening day after Christmas on Thursday, Dec. 26.
